Spring has sprung and once again considerate neighbours are putting their unwanted books out on the boulevard. Since I was planning to buy a copy soon, I appreciate it!
This book is about our ability to make snap judgements with accuracy. The first point is that snap judgements are often surprisingly accurate. Trained observers viewing a small slice of conversation between couples can predict who will get divorced. A stranger looking at your home can predict whether you’ll be a good employee.
But snap judgements can go wrong. One of the BAD things was the pre-judging that we do when our brains are contaminated by stereotypes…. which is why some young men joke ruefully about “Driving While Black.”
