Brinks truck rollover traps three inside

A Brinks truck rolled off a highway in the city’s west end Sunday, trapping three people inside.

A firefighter uses a sledgehammer to smash the window of the armored vehicle to try and free two Brinks guards stuck in the back of the truck. Crews had a difficult time trying to free those inside.

“They look like they went for quite a ride,” said Toronto EMS worker Glen Gillies. “They got tossed around quite a bit in the truck and with it being an armoured car, you can imagine it’s a pretty rough ride.”

The accident happened late Sunday afternoon on the northbound Highway 427 ramp at Highway 409.

Crews also had a tough time trying to free the driver from the wreck, and he sustained non-life threatening head injuries. The trio was taken by ambulance to Sunnybrook Hospital.

More LOLcats

Something happened to my laptop computer and now all I get is the Blue Screen of Death. None of the starting modes work. I have to dig up some original disks and do something about it so I can get access to recent files and photos.

Remember the Milk

Pilates for two

LotStreetWiz and I were back at Pilates today in its new location. We missed last week because he was flying in from Vancouver and I wanted to meet him. I’d progress faster if I did the exercises every day and not just at class.

I also picked up the Spring 2008 schedule.

Not the Newport Beach triathlon

I looked into running (doing? playing?) the Newport Beach triathlon, which would be extremely convenient once I got to California. Setting aside that I’m woefully undertrained. It would just be an experiment and starts about a mile from the corporate apartment in Newport Beach and bikes past it. But the race was cancelled in 2006 because it was inconvenient for car owners and since then it has been rerouted. The bike course is now two loops of an out-and-back on a road that’s normally one way: it’s one lane plus a bike path.

Back Bay Road, Newport Beach

One side has mud cliffs or swamps and the other side has an estuary. There are not guardrails the whole length. So riders dash through this narrow road, up a hill, then do a U-turn and go back down against the stream of people still going up. Half of them will be zig-zagging or wobbling and the other half will be zooming downhill. And then they’ll do it again. The fast people will lap the slow people. It’s tailor-made for bike crashes. I think I’ll skip it and aim for a mini-tri somewhere else, later in the season. It still sounds like fun.

This is just silly

Lost phone

I can’t find my cell phone. I did a few errands today but I was sure that I brought the phone home with me. Well, almost sure. I remember having it after a couple of the errands but maybe not after the last one. Where was I? The hardware store?

I’m assuming it’s in the house and hoping that it will turn up. This is a what it looks like.

"We stand in awe…"

A thread over on scienceblogs reminded us of this article by Prof. PZ Myers of the University of Minnesota: We stand in awe at the heights our people have achieved.
