How to know how far you’ve been

Google Maps Pedometer is a mashup of Google Maps. You go to the site and find your starting place by zooming in on a map. Then you double-click at your starting point. You can zoom in as far as the map allows or zoom out to take “big steps.” You can turn on or off mile or kilometer markers, elevation display, and even a calorie counter.

If you’re going out and back on the same route, map it one way and then click “Complete return journey” and the route is doubled back for you.
