The water was cold, only 62 degrees Fahrenheit (17 degrees Celsius), but it didn’t hurt, so I swam and got used to it. First it felt cold, then somewhat numb, and finally refreshing. We swam out to the third, or middle, white buoy and back for a warm-up. Then we swam down to the fifth buoy, back to the first, back to the middle, and in to the beach. Then we swam back to the first, and in. I estimate about 1500 yards, various strokes. I’m using sidestroke as a fast resting stroke and breaststroke when the water gets choppy.
