It’s time, actually past time, for our cats to get their spring flea-proofing. The entire treatment is a couple of drops of flea poison between the shoulder blades, the one place where cats can’t reach.  But for some reason, our senior cat hates it. The others barely notice. She flinches and flees.

Now she’s trying to find a place to sulk where she doesn’t have to look at me. Luckily, the treatment lasts for more than a month; usually I get away with two treatments over the summer.

There’s probably a scent to the flea poison that she can detect and you can’t and that she doesn’t like very much. Just explain to her that it’s probably better to have a few drops of something with an odour she doesn’t care for rather than to be submersed in a bath on a regular basis or to have all her fur shaved off so that the fleas can’t find a place to establish a home. I’m sure that if you explained it in those terms she’d be much more accomodating.

You’re probably right. Too bad I don’t speak Feline.

Or it might be that she’s just the most persnickety, skittish, spookable, and neurotic of my cats.
