Movies: Tremors

One movie I enjoyed was Tremors. It was funny, silly, and human.

It was the best example in recent times of a *new* monster and not a rehash of the Vampire/Werewolf/Mummy/Frankenstein sort of thing. The other great thing was that the various people being assaulted by the monster weren’t idiots in the “Hmmm, something frightening is happening here: we’d best split up!” vein. They figured out what they were facing and went up the learning curve as fast as you could expect people facing a totally weird situation to do. Unlike the old monsters, they couldn’t have read books or seen movies about these monsters either so you didn’t get the trope of the local kids from the comic book store being everyone’s best hope.
